As development progress continues at Summit Pointe, the buzz is growing around Coastal Virginia’s newest urban lifestyle community. Among one of the most exciting events to happen recently was the Dollar Tree campus dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

On Saturday, August 24, Dollar Tree executives, families of Dollar Tree founders Macon Brock and Ray Compton, and current and past employees along with representatives from the State of Virginia, the City of Chesapeake, and many of the vendor partners involved with the project gathered to celebrate the campus dedication at Summit Pointe. Among those speakers at the event included Executive Chairman of Dollar Tree Bob Sasser, President and CEO of Dollar Tree Gary Philbin, Virginia Senator Lionell Spruill, Sr., Congressman Bobby Scott, Chesapeake Mayor Rick West, and Director of Chesapeake Economic Development Steven Wright.

The event began with remarks from Bob Sasser, introducing many members of Dollar Tree management and thanking Dollar Tree employees for their hard work. “Some of my favorite people are the people that I have worked so hard with at Dollar Tree. In addition to that, I’ve recruited them to build and develop this project and they’ve done a terrific job. I really appreciate it.” remarked Sasser, “We could not have done this without Chris Williams, our Vice President of Portfolio Management, and Christian Chiles, Corporate Counsel – Real Estate.”

Mr. Sasser spoke about the development underway at Summit Pointe. “We’re not done yet!” he announced, “The Dollar Tree tower is completed, but our project continues.” Mr. Sasser thanked the development teams, specifically contractors Clancy and Theys, for their continued dedication to the projects underway at Summit Pointe.

Gary Philbin spoke and gave insights into the current state of the Dollar Tree business, including sharing the company’s core values, which have helped to propel the success of the company. Mr. Philbin stated that “While this new campus building is beautiful, it is our people and their dedication to the core values that were established by our founders that have led to our success. We wanted to give our great people the best environment to work in now, and in the future as we continue to grow.”

Chesapeake representatives Mayor Rick West and Steven Wright, along with Senator Lionell Spruill and Congressman Bobby Scott each spoke and discussed the benefits and opportunities that Summit Pointe brings to the Coastal Virginia region and thanked Dollar Tree for their decision to expand their operations in Chesapeake.

Following the opening remarks, guests were treated to an exclusive tour of the Dollar Tree offices. This tour covered all 12 floors of the tower building and included stops in areas like the merchandising floor and a sample Dollar Tree store that is housed inside the legacy building on campus. Tours concluded on the Mezzanine, where guests socialized and enjoyed refreshments. After a toast from Bob Sasser, the event concluded with a ribbon-cutting. This dedication and ribbon-cutting are among the first of many celebratory events that will take place at Summit Pointe. As the urban lifestyle community grows, we expect to see many more joyous gatherings come to life along the iconic Belaire Avenue.
